Look how far we've come: A Field Visit Flashback
There is something powerful about returning to a place you love and seeing it through fresh eyes. A year ago, a wonderful team from Australia made their way to Barnabas Legacy - in Namatovu and KatundaVillages, Buikwe District – Jinja. They walked through the gates of Agape Star Christian School. What they saw moved them. What has happened since then moves us even more.
What they saw
When the team arrived in 2025, the school was already a place of warmth and purpose - but it was also a school still growing into itself. The dormitories were newly opened, children were settling into boarding life, and the grounds were full of possibility not yet fully realised. The visitors came with open hearts and returned home with stories they could not stop telling.
The difference a year makes
A lot can change in twelve months when a community is moving together. The dormitories, the boys and girls, are now fully functional, complete with bunks, bedding, and a sense of settled, safe home life for the children who board with us. The dormitories received solar and security lighting towards the end of last term. A new main entrance gate now stands at the school. An additional toilet serves our boarding boys.
In July 2026, a significant milestone was reached: the land extension adjacent to our school grounds was formally acquired, made possible through the generous fundraising of the Halls Creek family in Australia. What began as a vision is now ground beneath our feet. Plans are already underway for a five-year farm on that land - maize, beans, bananas - led by Mr Luuka Simon as farm manager. A farm that will feed children and sustain this school for years to come.
A student teacher joined us on internship, serving the Baby Class with dedication and grace. Our Primary Seven candidates sat their mock examinations - prepared, focused, and ready.
What stays with you
Those who visited last year did not just see a school - they saw children who are loved, teachers who are called, and a community that believes in something bigger than itself. That belief is what has powered every gate post, every bunk bed, and every acre of new land. Partnership like theirs does not stay at arm's length. It gets under your skin and makes you want to come back.
Join us in 2027
We are already praying and planning for the next field visit in August 2027. If you have ever thought about coming to see this work in person, to walk the grounds, meet the children, sit with the teachers, and experience what your prayers and giving have built, we would love for you to come. This is an open invitation. Click here for further details.

Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing in our teachers. Thank you for making this work possible.
With gratitude and anticipation,
