Created for Something Big: What our Children Dream of Becoming

Ask any child what they want to be when they grow up, and you will get an answer full of certainty, colour, and hope. At Agape Star, we believe those answers matter, not as passing fancies, but as glimpses of the futures God is already shaping in each child we teach.

Big Dreams from Small Voices

We recently sat down with five of our pupils and asked them a simple question: what do you want to be when you grow up? Here is what they told us.

“I want to be a nurse. I want to care for sick people and make them well again, the way our teachers care for us.” Humaiah, P.6

“I want to be a lawyer, so that I can stand up for people and make sure things are done fairly.” Agnes, P.6

“I want to be a lecturer. I love learning new things, and I want to teach other people the way our teachers have taught me.” Miriam, P.5

“I want to be a mechanic. I like fixing things with my hands, and I want to help people whose cars and machines break down.” Joseph, P.6

“I want to be a statistician and an accountant. I like numbers, and I want to help people and businesses manage their money well.” Hamish, P.4

A nurse, a lawyer, a lecturer, a mechanic, a statistician, the range of answers was as wide as the children themselves, and every single one was spoken with conviction.

Education is the beginning of the future

Education, for us, has never been only about literacy and numeracy. It is about helping a child discover who God says they are, and giving them the tools to become it. This is at the heart of BLCDF's vision for every child in our care: the Right to Dream, the Right to Recognition, and the Right to achieve their God-given Potential.

In July 2026, a significant milestone was reached: the land extension adjacent to our school grounds was formally acquired, made possible through the generous fundraising of the Halls Creek family in Australia. What began as a vision is now ground beneath our feet. Plans are already underway for a five-year farm on that land - maize, beans, bananas - led by Mr Luuka Simon as farm manager. A farm that will feed children and sustain this school for years to come.

A student teacher joined us on internship, serving the Baby Class with dedication and grace. Our Primary Seven candidates sat their mock examinations - prepared, focused, and ready.

Continuing the Journey

This dream-building doesn't happen in a vacuum, it is carried by a community. As Term II closed in August, a wonderfully successful parents' and community fundraiser reminded us how many people stand behind these children's futures.

Our own maize harvest, now stocked ahead of Term 3, means fuller stomachs and clearer minds for learning. And on our land extension, preparations continue for a five-year farm that will help sustain this school, and these dreams, for years to come.
Every meal served, every salary paid, every acre prepared is, in its own quiet way, an investment in a child who wants to be a nurse, a lawyer, or something the world hasn't seen yet.
