It takes a Village: The importance of Community
There is an old saying, used across Uganda and beyond, that a child is raised by a village. At Agape Star Christian School, we believe that deeply. Not as a slogan but as a lived reality. Every child who walks through our gates in Namatovu arrives carrying the investment of many: a parent who woke early to walk them to school, a teacher who prayed before the school day began, a donor halfway around the world who gave faithfully without ever seeing a single face. That is community. That is what makes our school run.
Shared Ownership: Not Charity but Partnership
From the very beginning, Agape Star was built on a conviction that sustainable education is never the work of one person or one organisation. It is built when local communities, families, leaders, and international partners each play their part, not out of obligation, but out of genuine shared ownership.
Local families send their children and trust us with what is most precious to them. Village leaders open doors and build credibility. Our teaching staff invest not just their skills but their hearts. And our global supporters, people in Australia and beyond, give financially and prayerfully to make it all possible. When all of these parts move together, extraordinary things happen.
What Community made possible in April
April 2026 showed us exactly what partnership looks like in practice. Because of the generosity and faithfulness of our community of supporters, this month the school saw:
- Solar panels purchased and delivered to site – Phase One installation funds received and planning underway.
- A water tank purchased and installed in the dormitory area, giving our 23 boarding children reliable access to clean water.
- Hanging lines installed for both boys and girls – improving daily hygiene for every child at the school.
- End-of-term examinations completed across all Nursery and Primary classes, with strong results.
- The formal registration of our first-ever P.7 candidates for Uganda’s National Examinations – a historic milestone.
- Staff (teaching and non-teaching) salaries paid and cleared.
- Bills and utilities fully settled.
- Term 1 closed on 25 April 2026, with over 210 children in attendance on the final day.
None of this happens in isolation. Every solar panel, every water tank, every exam sat – it is the fruit of a community that chose to show up, give, pray, and believe together.
Strength through Collaboration
When hearts unite across continents, when communities celebrate together, when children are valued and empowered, and when partnership means true friendship, so much happens that changes lives forever, in the power and strength of our heavenly Father.
That is not poetry. It is the story of Agape Star. Our teachers are not lone workers, they are supported by a global family. Our students are not forgotten village children, they are seen, celebrated, and invested in by people who have never met them but love them fiercely. Our infrastructure does not grow by accident, it grows because someone said yes to a need.
Collaboration is not just a strategy here. It is the heartbeat of everything we do.
5 Practical ways you can stand with us
If you believe in what God is building at Agape Star, here is how you can be part of the village:
- Make a once-off gift – toward a single item or general operations. Every amount makes a direct difference.
- Become a monthly donor – consistent, recurring giving allows us to plan ahead, staff well, and serve with confidence every single term.
- Donate stationery or educational resources – contact us to find out what is most needed and how to get it to us.
- Share our story – send this blog post or our newsletter to one person who might want to give or pray. Word of mouth builds villages.
- Pray – consistently, specifically, faithfully. We believe prayer moves things that money cannot.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Thank you for believing in our children. Thank you for supporting a vision that says every child deserves to be loved, respected, and empowered to achieve their God-given potential.
We carry joy in our hearts and continue our mission with renewed energy and boundless gratitude. It truly takes a village – and we are so grateful you are part of ours.
With thanks,
