We’ve got a brand new kitchen!

This month we’re delighted to share the news of the successful completion and dedication of our new kitchen facility at Agape Star Christian School.

On January 12, 2026, we officially dedicated this vital space in a heartfelt ceremony marked by joy, prayer, and thanksgiving. The dedication brought together a small gathering of staff, parents, and local leaders who came to celebrate this important milestone. Together, we prayed over the facility, toured the completed kitchen, and committed ourselves to faithful stewardship of all aspects of this gift.

With the kitchen now ready, it will begin full operations this academic term, immediately providing nutritious meals to our students.

The link between good nutrition and effective learning

It’s no surprise that nutrition transforms learning.

School feeding programs have been shown to improve attendance by up to 30%, and in Uganda, an estimated 41% of children under five experience stunted growth due to malnutrition. Children who arrive at school hungry often struggle with concentration and cognitive performance, making it harder for them to engage, learn, and thrive.

Many of our students walk long distances to school, often without breakfast. With this kitchen now operational, every child will receive at least one guaranteed meal each day, giving them the energy and focus they need to participate fully in the classroom.

Key Infrastructure completed

This project delivered essential infrastructure to support safe, consistent school meal preparation, including:

  • A main cooking area with three cooking stations
  • A secure dry food storage room
  • A preparation and serving zone with a larger open window
  • A sanitation facility for utensils (located inside the kitchen store)
  • Three cooking stoves of different sizes

International Donations, stewardship, and local ownership

This project was completed with the help of a very generous donation of $2,800USD, and $320.40US from local contributions. The School donated bricks (previously created and laid on school land by BLCDF CEO & Co-Founder Steven Wamala’s Business), local community donated some sand, and school local contributions for term three 2025 supported workers labour.

We aimed to maximise donated funds for critical materials and activities. Our purpose was to ensure that there is demonstration of excellent stewardship and strong local ownership in the project.

Special recognition and thanks

We extend our deepest gratitude to Mama Sue and Papa Mike from New Zealand, whose vision and commitment made this project possible. Their faithful leadership has created lasting change for our students, and our dedication honoured their partnership, one that has been present since the foundation of the school, and the transformative impact this kitchen will have for years to come.

We also thank Mama Queen, our Co-Founder, for her tremendous work, and every supporter who contributed financially, prayerfully, and practically. Your partnership equips us to nourish not only bodies, but also minds and hearts.

This kitchen stands as a clear testimony of God’s faithful provision through generous partners.

With gratitude

The ASCS kitchen represents far more than a new building, it represents hope, care, and investment in children’s futures. Every meal served, starting this term, is an investment in a child’s potential.
